Can this vinyl be cleaned or not?

This product from Home Depot has worked best for me after trying all sorts of home remedies, bleach, magic erasers, etc. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Mold-Armor-32-oz-Instant-Mold-and-Mildew-Stain-Remover-FG502/100628954 Works best if used in hot bright direct sunlight and left on for a few minutes. I’m sure it’s mostly bleach, smells like bleach, but has worked much better for me on seats that look just like yours.

    Replacement Drain Plug

I bought a replacement brass one on Amazon for $7.00. https://www.amazon.com/Invincible-Marine-BR54836-GarboardPlug-Brass/dp/B005XWELRI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1531349722&sr=8-3&keywords=Boat+drain+plug%2C+brass

    Bimini Wobble

I started crossing my front straps several years ago. Took care of the problem and hasn’t really been a problem to duck under them.

    Attaching the ladder to boat

Mine were just loose, not completely missing. The wife crawled back there and held the nut while I tightened from the top, she said never again!

    Engine Bay Actuator Grinding Noise

Mine has been grinding for 5 years or more, I mean deafening grinding, embarrassing when someone is around. I have tried greasing it, had no affect. I keep thinking about getting a replacement, but they are expensive and hard to find. I measured it up last fall hoping to find a suitable replacement but haven’t found one yet.

    2006 256 Ssi

I have a 2005 256SSI with the 6.2 320 H.P. Engine and I am perfectly happy with it. Top end is just under 50 MPH. It has trim tabs but I rarely use them (only for leveling side to side). No problems getting up on plane.

    Pitot Speedometer

If it’s a Mercruiser you can also disconnect the tubing on the front side of the outdrive. What you did is probably fine, most of them get plugged from time to time and need to be blown out anyway.

How do you clean your carpet?

I used to clean my snap in carpet various ways, hose it down, use a carpet steam cleaner, vacuum, spot clean, etc. a couple years ago I took it out and threw it away, took out the male snaps and patched the holes, never been happier. If I was going to do anything I would put down a cushion sheet flooring, Nu Teak or similar. I’m done with carpet.

    Bimini Top Hardware

I have an OEM Bimini on my 256 SSI and it is indeed all stainless. I have it up most of the time and generally cruise around 30 MPH. It used to shake from side to side in moderate chop until I started crossing the front straps, X fashion side to side. Since then it is very stable.

A new way to drain your oil

My Merc came with the umbilical drain hose that was attached to the bilge drain plug, it was worthless. Took hours for the oil to drain. Besides which my boat is stored on a lift and it is much easier to work from above with a vacuum pump when changing oil.

    Trailer guide recommendations

Same with me, they are standing in the corner of the garage.

    264 with no trim tabs?

I have them, rarely use them, only to balance boat side to side. I would say unnecessary but ok to have. My boating is on a large lake that is mostly rough on weekends.

    Winterization

I was recently told by a trusted marine mechanic that it is no longer recommended to run a fuel/oil cocktail through the engine when winterizing. The fuel evaporates leaving the oil to plug the fuel injectors. Causes more problems then it solves.

    Winterization

Never paid a penny for winterization or dewinterization on mine. About 2 hours to change the oil and drive lube and winterize in the fall. Absolutely nothing to do but turn the key in the spring. If you pay to have it done, and you are paying a lot, then yes, 2 engines would approximately double the cost, probably a little less.

    New 256 SSI Dash

Very nice! I have a 2005 with the same dash and the same issues around the screws and have also been looking for a solution.

    Hours meter

I had to replace my tach a couple years back, and my hour meter was in the tach. The new one had zero hours. Every time I get some service work done my shop reads the computer on the engine (Mercury) and prints the hours out on the invoice.

    Drive shower

I bought one about 4 years ago, never seemed to get around to installing it, its hanging in my shop. Last summer my drive failed and needed a 2500 deer rebuild, guess I should have installed the shower?

    replace trim sender

Fixing/replacing it is a waste of time with a Mercruiser, it will fail again quick. Someone should make a replacement that works.

    Outdrive Fluid Change......necessary?

My understanding is that it is illegal to change it over the water where I am. Even if it isn't, it would be irresponsible, since it is almost impossible to drain it and catch all the lube dripping from the drive.

    Outdrive Fluid Change......necessary?

I'm in the same boat, just had some work done on my drive a couple weeks ago so all new fluid. I specifically asked the mechanic, and he said no need to change until next fall. Those that say it's an easy job must trailer their boats. For me it means taking the boat off the lift, taking it to a ramp, pulling it from the water, changing the fluid and then taking it back to the ramp and back to the lift. Very time consuming and very difficult for one person. Even more so if you don't own a trailer, or a truck to pull it, luckily I do. An oil change you can do on the lift. Not the drive lube.

    Shifting into reverse

Mine did the same. It's expensive. Mechanic said it is pretty common.

Well, this means the season is over... :-(

Jeez, where are you guys, the arctic, the best boating weather is yet to come.

    This years Marina gas prices.

Down to $2.29 (marina 87 octane) on Lake of the Ozarks. I'm loving it. $1.78 on land.

Oil Pan 2006 256 ssi Oil Pan Leak

I had the same problem with my 2005 a couple years ago. I tried for a year to fix it using big washers with gasket material around them under the drain plug, etc. I finally gave up and had the engine pulled and the oil pan replaced. The old one was like a screen, you could see right thru it. Nothing short of replacement would have fixed it and it couldn't have been replaced without pulling the engine. By the way, the best way I found to "inspect" what was down there was to use a cell phone as a camera, hold it down under the engine and snap a bunch of pictures.

Opinions on PWC's -buying not complaining about!!

I have had a Yamaha, a Polaris (no longer made) a Honda (no longer made) and several different Sea Doos. If I wanted a good dependable medium price, medium power PWC, I would buy Yamaha. Look at the rental fleets anywhere you go in Florida, Mexico, etc. They are almost 100% Yamaha. They look like they have been drug down a gravel road behind a truck and put back together with duct tape and the are still running. To me that says a lot.
