  1. Could have been shipped/sold wrong plugs or plugs severely out of gap. Were they all mixed together and you randomly chose for each engine or were they shipped/packaged/purchased separately?
  2. I've been through a number of pumps including a few airheads, clamps, cig lighter et cetera. I did a lot of research to find something really fast and very portable. Currently using this: https://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DCE100B-Compact-Jobsite-Blower/dp/B016NZGL9O/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1543856007&sr=1-1&keywords=dewalt+jobsite+blower Not pictured in that link but it comes with little adapters that fit rafts. Check out the DeWalt site for more info/ to see the adapters. It is nothing short of amazing. Note, this link is for the tool only. I have a both 4ah ba
  3. Not normally where I would start but seeing as this only began after you replaced the regulator and plugs (and you have eliminated plugs as the cause), check the fuel pressure at the rail. Sounds like you've already checked vacuum lines. Where are you located?
  4. Maybe a bad plug. Other things that come to mind are IAC or MAP. The MEFI ECU is an open loop system so nothing to “learn” from the potential increased fuel being delivered as a result of new reg. If you have access, hook it up to diacom or similar and do a power balance and take a look for anything out of the ordinary on MAP, IAC, injector pulse width, spark dwell to start. If not, try swapping/checking the plugs.
  5. Ours is from snapincarpet (no s). The process was easy and the product looks great BUT it does get hot as #$^%. Now that younger kids are on the boat I am thinking I will have to get something else in the near future. Pretty frustrating. It is only a year old. The product is Sea Grass #11 https://www.snapincarpet.com/marine-weave.cfm If anyone wants it for their 256ssi let me know, but be ware it gets hot in the sun.
  6. I would try the OEM. Pretty sure it is Jay & Kay Manufacturing If they don't get you an answer, I can measure for you in a few weeks. http://www.jaykaymfg.com/01.htm
  7. Fair enough. I was addressing the OP's post stating there is "no transom hook" and that the only place to tow from were the trailer tie downs. While it may not be perfect, using the tow eye that is circled in red is certainly preferable to using trailer tie downs on a 256ssi unless I am missing something.
  8. 99.9% sure you do. It just looks different than what you may be used to. See circled here in red.
  9. Agree 110% with this. Did mine after reports from WingNut and Toddler. I also have the 12x12 edge-mounts. Different boat. Stopped porpoising and pops up a bit quicker. Can stay on plane at lower speeds. Rarely have this many people, but will easily jump on plane with 10 people on board (Volvo 8.1 GXi).
  10. I agree with Wingnut and would personally never use anything other than Volvo as I can get it on Amazon Prime for pretty cheap. That being said, a little bird told me that Amsoil manufactures the VP 75w-90 and my guess it is exactly the same as the one you have linked to.
  11. What engines? This will dictate how you get engine data to a networked MFD. Good luck and make sure to get a hull and engine/drive survey.
  12. What boat, year and engine?
  13. Interesting that the one they were using seemed to have a correct part #. What is the part number of the "correct" rings that you are now using? Thanks!

Any chance you have the SX-MHP housing? Look below for some background. This happened to me. Let me know if you have the MHP housing and if so, I'll walk you through my saga. http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engine-repair-and-maintenance/volvo-penta-i-o-inboard-gas-engines-outdrives/656846-sx-mhp-steering-arm-removal-stuck-need-help
  15. Rarely comment on posts like this but just to be sure, you're kiding about having your wife and son hold the tow line right?
  16. Amen. Not looking to burn through ECUs. Given the reliability of the MEFI4 and low failure rate I'm pretty sure there was external causation. Spent about 8 hrs testing and retesting the harness and sensors. Had a buddy bring his oscilloscope. Ended up replacing relays, MAP and TPS just to please the gods even though they tested fine. Maybe I'll swap the IAC as well.
  17. Maybe. I would argue the 8.1 stuffed in the 256 is pretty tight fore and aft but I have not been on a 183. Anyhow, what does that have to do with removing the drive? Didn't mention how hard it was hit and that he planned to have it realigned anyway, only that : Not trying to argue the course of action, just saying the drive does not need to be pulled on an SX or a DPS to replace the shift cable. That is a fact.
  18. Just as an FYI. While unlikely, it can happen. Setup 2005 Volvo Penta 8.1 GXI-JF MEFI4 ECU Symptoms Rough Idle Would fuel-foul new plugs within 30 minutes of run time Tons of unburnt fuel through exhaust Initial Diagnostic Actions Taken Fuel Pressure at rail- Good Fuel pressure at LP pump- Good Vacuum- Low about 12 in/hg MAP, TPS, CPS, ECT sensors all good through testing with DMM Additional Diagnostic Actions Taken Hooked up to Diacom, code 81 present, 5v Reference Malfunction ECU voltage was B+ plus 5v
  19. The drive does not have to be dropped to replace the shift cable on an SX. Look at the shop manual. The hardest part is the retaining pin/clip inside engine compartment. Google and look on iBoats. Took me about an hour and a half and I am no mechanic.
  20. I have the 420. Difference is forged rods, cam and MEFI/ECU map so I am told. The torque curve is actually slightly more favorable on the 380 due to the cam. The extra HP comes, as Wingnut indicated, by bumping up the rev limiter. I never want to run up above 4800 RPM on this engine anyway. Not worth it at all from a longevity standpoint. If you really want to get into additional power head over to Raylar Engineering on google and start from there. Cheers, Scott
  21. Was, What model of pre-amp line level controller is pictured? I have a fusion RA-205 which only has two zones. Need control over a third for transom speakers. That looks perfect. Thanks, Scott
  22. My understanding is that the product was created for engines that are not SmartCraft or Volvo EVC Capable and do not have J1939 data but I am no means an expert, just a happy customer. If your engines are SmartCraft capable that may be a better way to go. Not really sure. According to another post on this forum by Greg954rr: "All Mercruiser MPI (multi-port fuel-injected engines) sterndrive, inboard, and tow sports models with serial number 0M300000 and higher are compatible with SmartCraft instrumentation systems. Mercury Marine recommends installation of SmartCraft systems be perfor
  23. Wanted to share my excitement about a MEFI to NMEA 2000 engine gateway that is now on the market. I bought the gateway earlier this year and have been helping test it but have absolutely no stake in the business. The guy that developed it is a boater who has a day job but wanted to develop a cost effective gateway to see data from his MEFI3 engines on his MFD. Generally speaking this solution would be applicable to 2005 and earlier fuel injected boats. I am happy to report that mine works flawlessly and I could not be happier. Most questions appear to be answered on the website
  24. FYI I have MHP as well and have a lot of the specialized VP tools for the MHP should you ever need to borrow them. Be aware the steering arm design is flawed and can cause a slow leak into the boat caused by incorrect preload. I think this may only be an issue with the added weight of the 8.1 from my research but just FYI.
