  1. I too have the lumitec lights on my 256ssi. Go to my page and take a look at some of my pictures so you will have a good idea what it will look like as it seems we have the exact same boat! I only have 2 installed on the transom and are hard wired to one of my accessory switches. it is more than adequate. Underway it kicks out about 25-30 feet behind my boat. If you haven't done so already, consider getting the blue led bulbs for your cockpit lighting as well. No rewiring should be necessary. It really sets everything off and will turn heads at the dock.
  2. I agree with the post above and would hold out for the bigger engine unless cruising is all you plan to do. Also if there is even a remote possibility that a boat you are looking at has been in salt...you gotta pass on it! Do stick with either the models your looking at. I was originally going to get an ssx but found an 256 ssi with very low hours (and a bigger motor) for a great price and we love it! You can't go wrong with either model. Just be patient, know what you need to get out of your boat before you buy. Good luck!
  3. Turns out it was 2 things, #1- the starter switch was not releasing right away on start up and #2- the result of that has jacked up the starter. Got a new switch in this past weekend and the mechanic said I should be fine for now but the starter is still making a little grinding noise. It does sound a little better though. BUT I've been down this road before so I went ahead and bought a new starter so I have one on board if/when the starter finally does go bad. I'll just add the part next to my 2 impellers, alternator and various other parts I hoard to prevent my weekend from beings derailed!!
  4. I have the 8.1 and so far I love it. Great power! Volvo did a good job making certain things very accessible and easy to Change out vs the merc such as the impeller. I also really like how the Volvo shifts much quieter than the merc. But at the end of the day they are both good motors and I don't think you will be disappointed. Congrats in advance o the new purchase. I bought my 256 in February and we are having blast!!'
  5. So this weekend My boat started making a grinding sound on startup. The sound was sort of like when you would try and start and older car that is already running. (Come on,, we have all done this!) It doesn't do it everytime, just occasionally... My guess is I have a starter about to go kaput on me??????

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I filed them just a little and we are good to go. I do plan to pull them off and sent them to a prop shop over the winter. Happy boating everyone!

  9. Your pictures are great and that's a great looking boat. Makes me want to visit Canada soon!
  10. You might contact the dealer to find out specifically what your boat requires . As for mine i use 800 CCA batteries on my 06 256 ssi.

    Prop advice

Ok so I made my first mistake this past weekend tying to be courteous at the gas dock and got myself into some shallow water. I was at idle and The moment I heard my props get into the bottom I immediately shut down. Needless to say I was able to get the boat back to deeper Water but I did discover later on inspection that my props were nicked up some. Boat runs fine and I don't notice anything different in performance but was wondering if I should pull the props off anyway and have this nicks blended or will it be fine for now? Thanks in advance for the feedback!
