  1. Interesting! Thanks for posting this Gerid, you may indeed have helped someone. I too have a 2005 215 SSI. I bought the boat at the beginning of the 2013 season; no problems except always some water building up in the bilge that I could not explain by dripping off swimmers etc. I'll check out the housing. - Steve
  2. Here's a pic of the pine piece that torpedoed its way in.
  3. Thanks, I've had it in for some 40 hours since June - same thing, no display. Any suggestions Cris?
  4. No one knows yet, the tree hasn't been removed. I'll post an update.
  5. Thanks. It is the factory equipped Faria. I'll check all the connections.
  6. He does, yes. We'll see how good though. It will cost him about twenty k outside of insurance to clean up and re-landscape. One 5" x 4' limb torpedoed through the roof and down into a bedroom through the ceiling.
  7. On Friday, we had severe thunderstorms/unconfirmed tornadoes in Muskoka (cottage country 2 hours north of Toronto). My friend had 22 trees down on his cottage property. 7 or 8 hit his cottage and garage. One pine, with about a 30" trunk nailed hit his otherwise brand new Sunesta!
  8. I thought some might want to see specifically, what is involved in a mechanical inspection. I bought my boat in May and had it inspected as a condition of purchase. So, below is a copy of my actual inspection report. It was not possible for me to test drive the boat before making the commitment, but the inspection was more important in my mind. I discovered it is fantastic when I did finally get it on the water. I got a great deal, and I am delighted with my boat. I repaired everything mentioned in the report. It had 80 hours on it, and I have since added another 40 hours! The only thing not found (or not looked for) was the depth gauge; it gets power- the light comes on when I power on the depth rocker switch but no digits of any kind appear in the display. Does this mean the gauge is toast? Or am I missing something obvious. Thanks! Chapparal Inspection Form.pdf
  9. It seems everytime I have left bimini top open (4x for sure), thunderstorm/wind is guaranteed - result: tubing is bent and fittings snapped.
  10. 5 litres/ 305 ci. Mercruiser.
  11. Hello, I just bought a 2005 215 SSi today. I have not owned a Chaparral before, but my timing was right on a boat that had not been used for 5 years - as I understand - 90 hours. I am having an inspection in case there are issues relating to "just sitting there". Any thoughts on what to watch for when a boat is unused for a long time? Beautiful boat, will be enjoying it on Lakes, Muskoka, Rosseau and Jo in Ontario, north of Toronto.
