    Custom Handrail for Helm

    Anyone ever installed a handrail from windshield to helm on a 310 signature to allow safer access to bow? Mine is a 2008 and I recently saw a photo of a helm with a rail. If anyone has done this, can you share source of the part? Thanks in advance.

    South Florida Cruising

    Anyone have experience cruising to the Florida Keys from Naples? With only 147 gallon fuel capacity in my 310 Sig I am a little concerned at making the leg from Naples to Key West. I have twin 5.0 mercs with Bravo IIIs. Has anyone doe the leg?
  4. Hi Jim & Michelle. I just saw a thread where you built a cockpit table using corian. It looks fantastic and was wondering if you could share the dimensions, thickness, how it is attached, etc? My original wood table is too heavy and is looking pretty bad these days. Thanks

    South Florida Cruising

    Thanks for the response. I have developed a fuel burn chart and I'm pretty confident that even if bad currents or weather are encountered I should have plenty. I did change my route and will be departing for Key West from Marco. I live in Tampa, but boat is in St Pete.

    Protective Boat Cover

    I have a 310 Signature with arch and full canvas. Boat is lift kept and I am restricted from installing a permanent type cover over the slip. Anyone have experience with custom boat cover that is reasonably simple to install while on lift?

    Replacing Gauges and Instruments

    Mine are Faria, but the tach is a dual tach with digital readout at bottom. The digital area is becoming unreadable and that's where I get my boat data.
  8. I have a 2008 310 Sig and the gauges are becoming impossible to read. I'd like to replace with newer technology multi-functionals, but I'd prefer to minimize the dash modifications. Anybody have experiences to share? Thanks

    Kohler 5ECD Problem

    I'm hoping someone can help - local Kohler guy can't get to me in time to make a planned trip. Generator has been giving intermittent fault codes of "LOC", "UU" and "EC72". I've replaced the impeller, cleaned out heat exchanger, replaced anode, replaced temp switch, replaced fuel filter, replaced relay control board, checked all wiring connections inside the control box and checked all grounds. The longest it has ever run since I bought boat three months ago was about three hours. Currently it will run for about 15 seconds, display a "LOC" code and shut down. Water flow appears normal from the side of the boat. I'm at wits end and hopeful there's a Kohler wizard in our community. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    Kohler 5ECD Problem

    Thought I'd give an update on my unit since I started this crazy thread. As noted early on, I've replaced virtually every part known to man (except for the plugs which were just replaced prior to my purchase). The last thing I did in 2014 was to drain and replace all of the coolant. I followed everyone's advice on "burping" the system. The crazy part is that the genny must be feeling sorry for me. It has gone from a consistent: "start and run when cold and no re-start until cool down" to a "start and run when cold and re-start most of the time when hot"! Don't get me wrong, I'll take the latter, but it sure would be nice if I could get to the root of the problem. I'm doing my spring tune-up in a couple of weeks and will replace the plugs. Will post results when done. Cyclops2, I tend to agree that all of these problems are somehow related to heat - just haven't figured out exactly where and what. I always crank the genny without a load and let her warm up before flipping the breaker. I also do the reverse when shutting down. I do have a raw water strainer that I always make sure is clear. Sfisher, your problem is a bit different than what I've experienced. The only thing that is consistent about these gennies is that they are ornery and inconsistent. Hang in there and keep trying things is my best advice.

    Sorry for the delayed response - been traveling. I actually just took it apart (carefully), cleaned the inside glass, and cleaned the seal before re-assembling. Haven't had any more issues with the fogging.

    Thanks for the info Mark. Sounds like we've experienced the same problems. My dual tach is definitely the worst of my group with moisture and fog. I opened the gauge and corrected the moisture problem, but the fog makes the digital display unreadable. I also have a blank gauge that has a black background that is cracked. I am experiencing some bubbling on my dash panels and would very much like to have the contact info for the refinishing company. I'm actually in the Tampa / St Petersburg area so a Florida company makes it convenient. Thanks again for sharing your info. Cheers to great boating!

    Thanks flyboycj84. I do have mercs and I'm pretty sure they're smartcraft equipped. However, you bring up a good point and I'll check into that this weekend. Is there a simple way of determining that?

I am considering replacing the old round dial with newer technology multi-functionals; however, I'd prefer to minimize the dash modifications.     Kohler 5ECD Problem

    Thanks Stephen -fuses all checked good with meter. Ran it several times this weekend under various load conditions and she is so ornery! Runs for a while and shuts down with LOC code. Crank her again and she runs for a while and shuts down with a UU code. This on'e got me baffled. Plastic - afraid I don't have any experience with the steaming problem, but it certainly sounds like the exchanger may be clogged. Having said that I don't know why it hasn't shut down with all the sensors available.
  17. Rich - have you used your shower recently? I recently had the same problem on my 310 and found the seam around the edge needed to be resealed. I used 3M 5200 and it worked great.

    Kohler 5ECD Problem

    Thanks. I had my wife monitor and she noticed no voltage drop on the panel. The strangest part of the equation is that she will run for hours on the first start of the day and provide all the power I need, but once I shut her down, she won't crank again until she cools completely down. Very weird problem. When you said diagnostic control failing, are you referring to the master control board (motherboard)? That's one thing I haven't replaced because of the expense, but I'm beginning to lean toward biting the bullet on cost at this point.

    Thought I'd provide an update. Kohler tech finally showed up (unfortunately I couldn't be there with him). Billed me for two hours and said he: "found wire #37 grounded to control box. Disconnected wire and taped. #37 wire is unused wire. Tested and ran fine." So I fired her up and sure enough she cranked, purred like a kitten and powered house and air conditioner. However, when you shut it down and try to restart, she cranks and runs for about 15 seconds before flashing a UU code and shutting down. If I let her cool down overnight, she will run like a champ until I shut it down. My thinking is that there has to be some heat related problem, perhaps a connector, wire or something that reacts to expansion and contraction? Anyone experienced similar symptoms or have new ideas?

    Stephenm27 and Turkeyfoot - thanks for the fuse info. Turkeyfoot the link to the quickflush system is http://www.quickflushvalve.com. I'm ordering the one for the Generator and air conditioner which is a single shut-off valve. I plan to install between seacock valves and filter which means I'll have to close seacock valves before flushing. But I plan to be below deck anyway so it's not an issue for me. Good luck.

    Thanks turkeyfoot for the impeller verification and for the humorous story...unbelievable isn't it? Had the same problem with the AC HPF code and mine turned out to be a clogged water line from the pump into the unit. I'm going to install a flushing system for the AC and the Genny so I can salt away after each use. It's called a quick flush system manufactured by a group in Cape Canaveral. Assuming I can get the Genny working. Cheers

    Kohler 5ECD Problem

    Thanks to all for suggestions. Turkeyfoot, you mentioned two items that I haven't replaced - the actual water pump and the voltage regulator. When I replaced the impeller, the old one looked brand new with no vanes missing. When I flushed the system, nothing came out except for a small piece of the anode. Didn't suspect the water pump because it seems to be pumping water, but perhaps not enough? Never thought of the regulator, but I guess that's a possibility. After all, who would have thought that the Kohler techs' recommendation to replace the fuel filter for a UU code made any sense either. Maybe I'll give those a shot and see where it takes me. There's not many more parts left to replace aside from replacing the generator. From the responses and other discussions in the forum it sounds like I'm not the only guy with Kohler problems! If I do find the magic bullet, I'll let everyone know. One more thought - my impeller is a six vane, but I noticed that there is also a 10 vane impeller for Kohlers. Does anyone out there have a 5ECD from 2008 vintage that can attest that the six vane is indeed the correct one to use? I'm finding that there are a lot of variants out there. Thanks again to everyone for the quick responses. rbe1018 - sorry, but I haven't experienced the ECM code (yet), so unfortunately I can't offer any suggestions.
  23. Hello fellow Chap owners. I recently bought a 2008 310 Signature and though I'm not new to boating (19' center console), I'm not an expert at cruising. We bought the boat in Cape Coral and brought her into our home port in St Petersburg. The trip up was ICW all the way but we only stopped for lunch and to refuel so we didn't get a chance to relax and explore. I'm planning a week long trip up the ICW to Tarpon Springs with stops along the way to enjoy food, drink and explore local areas. I'm finding that there is no real good source of information that shows transient marinas, waterfront restaurants, etc. Has anyone made the trip that can offer some suggestions? Was originally going all the way to Crystal River and rent a smaller boat for scalloping, but friends have discouraged me based on water depths and hazards in that neck of the woods. Any suggestions or assistance would be appreciated.
