  1. Thanks Duane! I've still got everything off the boat for now. This will probably be a winter project by the time I get to the outdrive going back on. I have some horrible looking coating that is on the bottom of the boat that I would like to get off back down to the gelcoat, but, I don't know if that is going to be possible. I looks like bed liner or under coating. I understand why it's there, this boat has been in saltwater all of its life. Now it is strictly a freshwater boat and the coating is not needed. The color of the coating has faded and they applied it almost halfway up the boat and
  2. Thanks Duane. I hope everything will interchange like it appears it's going to. The only reason why I want to stay OMC for now is because I know the outdrive on the donor was working flawlessly and the donor was free so that is saving some money I can put toward something else
  3. Thanks everyone for the replies
  4. Thank you both for the replies
  5. Lol, yes I want it off. I missed an "f". Funny how I never missed them on my report card. Anyway, the boat was in salt water all of its life so I understand why it's there. The color has faded a lot and the gel coat has oxidized. The gel coat is going to buff out nice but I can't do anything to this coating so I was going to try to remove it.
  6. Does anyone know what I can use to get this bed liner type coating of the bottom of my boat?
  7. That's what I'm hoping, Cyclops. I have both boats disassembled and everything laying beside each other and everything looks identical. That's what I was hoping for. Any idea on the difference in gear ratio and what prop I should run?
  8. Thank you for the replies. I have always steered clear of OMC and I do prefer mercruiser. I have a nice place to work and I'm mechanically inclined. Both boats cost me close to nothing and the donors boat outdrive works flawless. I guess I got lucky. I have thought about converting to mercruiser, but, since I already have all of this stuff I was gonna give it a shot. The donor boat is 100% complete and has everything needed to do the swap if the gear ratios between the 5.0 and the 5.7 doesn't matter that much.
  9. Hello all, I have recently acquired a 1988 2300SX with a OMC 5.7L engine and I am assuming it had a cobra outdrive, the upper and lower was removed for some reason or another before I got it. This boat has spent all of its life in the waters of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, so needless to say, The gimbal housing and trim cylinders are so corroded that they seem to be welded in place. I have a donor boat that has an OMC Ford 5.0L in it with a Cobra outdrive that I hope to use. My questions are.... 1. I want to change the entire outdrive from the donor (freshwater) boat to the 2300 that is unusable. Is
