Just cause we have a bunch of airplane lovers

It's interesting how there are two ways to accomplish basics. I'm beginning to believe that I was taught the less popular way on a couple, but they feel completely natural to me. Approach speed is a constant. I think most learn to point the nose at the landing point and control airspeed with the throttle(s). I learned to control the airspeed with the elevators and the rate of descent/glide slope with the throttle.

I guess I'm in the minority, but like SST, I was taught to side slip into a crosswind. It always felt more natural to me because that keeps you lined up with the runway. It just takes a bit more power to keep your rate of descent under control. . . . . Any landing you walk away from is a good landing . . .

Need Help on recent boat purchase

Hi OCMD2, The concern is if I decide to get a slip, it will have to be painted, so do I just get the blisters repaired and the bottom painted regardless. I'm a salt water guy, so those that slip in fresh water will have to weigh in on the necessity for bottom paint in fresh water.

Need Help on recent boat purchase

Are you concerned about the lack of bottom paint because of where the boat had been used or about your use of the boat going forward? A boat used in fresh water and trailered shouldn't need bottom paint.

Negative. The developer is The Dark Sky Company. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.darksky.darksky

Ok, thanks. So in the Play Store, the full name of the app is Dark Sky - Hyperlocal Weather.

What is the full name/developer name of the Dark Sky you are using? There are several Dark Sky apps in the Play store.

$1,200 seems high. The pump is about $450. About an hour and a half labor.

    Bimini Wobble

AFAIK, it's stock. I'm the 2nd owner, but I'm pretty sure it came from the factory that way.

    Boat and Dog

Definitely go with the jacket! If it's a smaller dog, the backstrap handle makes it easy to grab him/her in the water!

What is the make and model of your radio? Did you RTM?

    Battery's

I figured that was the case but I just didn't check that position when I tested. I had previously believed that either 1 or 2 would charge both, but decided to test when I had a low voltage issue at the beginning of the season. But now I know!!

Once you have your MMSI, you have to program it into your radio.

    Battery's

On my Sunesta, switch to #1 charges battery 1 and switch to #2 charges battery 2. I'm not sure about the both position. The boat originally had one battery and I had a 2nd added. The marina advised that stock one-battery setups did not come with an isolator, hence the individual charging. Not a big deal, as I start on one battery one day and the other the next, using the non-starting battery for the day as the house.

    Ever witness a boating accident?

You'd think that would be a no-wake, 6 knot zone.

2014 Sunesta taking on water when cruising

I always have a tiny bit of water in my bilge, which I attribute to rain. In my case, I also get water in my trash can, and about the only way water is going to get into something like that is going to be rain. One thing I would check would be your water pump. My pump was spraying a bit of water into the bilge, which resulted in more water than usual. I was difficult for me to detect, as when the engine is running, air movement and vibration in the bilge causes some water movement. If you are in salt water, look for some salty overspray.

    Cooler recommendations

This is a 24 can soft side. Great for day trips for a few people. I dump a bin of ice into it and have most of it left at the end of the day, starting with cold drinks. It has two side pockets for snacks, utensils, napkins, etc. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00367IYJI/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I started out with a single battery as well. Bear in mind that you likely don't have a battery isolator with a single battery (or at least I didn't), so when you add a 2nd battery, the system will only charge the battery that is selected. Not a big deal, just alternate the batteries that you use. I'm mentioning this because there have been other discussions that point out that the system will charge both/all batteries regardless of selection. In fact, the marina that installed my 2nd battery thought the same thing until we tested. They advised that the isolator is required for a always-charging-all solution.

I typically watch both the depth on the chartplotter and the multi-function gauge. The multi-function depth finder seems to drop out/be inaccurate more than the chartplotter. I rely upon a combination of both depth gauges and the chart. Plus, I have an additional benefit of knowing the water I'm in I am a lot of the time.
