2003 Signature 300 Needs New Trim Tabs

Quick update: I looked everywhere and talked to Bennett, Chap dealers, etc., and no one seemed to be able to help me find the right replacement. I ended up having a friend create new ones using an old one as a template. They seem just as good, probably better - especially the hinge, as the old ones.

2003 Signature 300 Needs New Trim Tabs

Sorry for the delay in posting back to this. The trim plane assemblies have corroded. One fell off last summer. The rest of the tab system seems fine. I tried calling Bennett, but they needed a SKU from a Chaparral dealer. I called my local Chap dealer and they said they could order them for me. I had them do that and they ended up being an off the shelf standard mount 18x9 plane, not the original bottom mount (piano hinge) planes that came on the boat. I want to do direct replacement with identical part if possible.
  3. I'm having a tough time finding the right trim plane replacement for my 2003 Signature 300. Has anyone here replaced them? What brand and type? On the Sig 300 they are bottom mounted 18x9 plane assemblies. I'm hoping for an easy, direct replacement.

    Signature 300 Fuel Tanks

I have a leaking fuel tank in my 2003 Signature 300. Does anyone know if the 2001 Signature 300 fuel tank is the same as the 2003 fuel tank? I was told it's different, but I don't know what the difference is. Could it just be the model number is different and the size and shape are the same? I have a blueprint for the 2001 tank and would like to order a new one before I get the old one out if possible to save time. Thanks!
  6. Hello George,

Well, I just found out that I have to replace the tank in my 2003 Signature 300. When they pressure check it it pushed out gas underneath.  I have gotten info and a quote from Luther's.  Are you still happy with the tank you got from them?

Do you have anything else you'd like to share beyond your original post before I get started?  Thanks again for that post. It looks like it's going to be hugely helpful!

2001 300 Signature fuel tank swap

George, thanks for this post! I may have the misfortune of needing to do the same thing, I'm not sure yet. I just went to my 2003 Sig 300 at the boatyard briefly yesterday to start the commissioning process and there's a strong smell of fuel in the bilge. So, I left one of the engine covers open and the door in the shrink wrap open a bit to air it out. I have to go back soon to take off the wrap and check things further. I'm hoping it's just a spill from winterizing, but that may be wishful thinking. If not, your post of the replacement process may be very helpful! Do you happen to know if the 2003 uses the same tank as your 2001?
