  1. Hi all, I am trying to help a buddy out. he is trying to select the correct prop for his boat he currently has a 19 ft 1992 Dixie boat with a 4.3 and an alpha one out drive. He has looked all over the lower unit and cant find a gear ratio. I was hoping that someone may be able to tell me how to find this info. Any help is greatly appreciated

    Prop Movement

I found a marina that has a lift and will take care of it for me...I did it once before with the boat on the trailer and couldn't get everything off.

I am going to forego the anti fouling paint and I wont be slipping it either...but the bottom cleaning is a must ..Thx

    Prop Movement

No loss of RPM, max RPM is 5200 and I can get there no problem...last season I was able to get to 52 mph easily now I cant...what has changed? so far mechanically nothing that the shop can find. I dont know enough about the engine coupler but it has been brought up and if what you are saying is true then its clearly not the coupler. Can the minimal amount of marine deposit on the hull cause enough drag to be the reason for the drop in MPH? maybe...my next step is to have the bottom cleaned by someone with a lift and go from there. I really appreciate all the advice.

I replaced the hub and the rubber shear, each spark plug has been replaced some were cracked and I can get to max rpm no problem. No marina gas only non ethanol from a different source.

Hey All, I have a 2011 Chaparral 246 SSI with an alpha one and I have been having issues with a dramatic top speed loss. I have gone from 52 mph to 40 at WOT. I have done alot of work on it to remedy it with no luck. I have changed the hub on the prop, changed the gas, oil, water fuel separator and I had the spark plugs changed and the cap and rotor and the results are the same. there is minor buildup on the hull from being slipped but I have gotten the majority of that off. One of my buddies told me to put the boat in gear with the engine off and see if the prop will spin and it does. When I spin it there is an audible click. is this normal?

    Top Speed Loss

pulled the boat out cleaned the bottom and lower unit really wasn't that bad...i just don't like a dirty hull...changed the fuel/water separator and putt gas from a different source in it...she runs like she should top speed is back to normal....I blame the gas..

I am going to pull her out and take out all the extra stuff we bring on and put a fresh tank of gas ...Sacandaga fuel filter/water separator is next..Lots of great info you all thanks.

Philbo...I did put marina gas in it....and thats when she started to slow down.....huh...I never considered that...I put high octane in it every other time cept at the marina...I will get some stabil and try that...might work..

    Top Speed Loss

Hello all, I am new to this forum, I have a 2011 Chaparral 246 SSI wide tech with a 5.7 350 mag. I recently put my boat in a slip (3weeks ago) and I have lost quite a bit of my top end. Before I slipped it I could hit 50+ mph with the current load of gear, fuel and passengers. I took her out today and couldn't get above 40 mph. I used a speedo app on my phone along with the speedometer on the boat cause I thought maybe the sensor was messed up or something was clogged, The app and speedo are pretty close in speed when I tested it so I am looking elsewhere. I have read about a spun hub or maybe a dropped cylinder and to check my distributor and plugs. Any other suggestions?
