    Ignition Issue

Shepherd; Any idea what the part number for the ignition switch might be? I looked but couldn't find it; I'm probably looking in the wrong place Thanks

    Ignition Issue

Last weekend when I tried to start the boat, it wouldn't. I turned the key and nothing happened. No sputtering, no clicking, nothing at all enginewise. AC came on fine so blowers and other gauges worked. Replaced the battery a month ago, voltage looked good. Turned the key a few more times and she caught and ran fine all day. At fuel dock, same thing. She didn't run rough at all and everytime I turned it off it took a few tries. Ignition switch?

    Thru-Hull Drain

So it turns out the problem was the speedometer cable! My speedometer didn't work last year but I had checked the cable and it was plugged in fine at both ends so I figured it was just a bad speedo. I used GPS anyway so I didn't do anything about it. The cable had a cut in it that I just discovered trying to figure out where the water was coming from. I clamped the cable and presto, no more water in the bilge! i will fix the cable and see what happens this season. Thanks to everyone for their replies. Dan

    Thru-Hull Drain

I will definitely check the bellows again. I still would like to eliminate the drain as a possible source so if anyone knows how to get to the drain tube inside the hull or a good way of plugging the drain that would be great. Thanks, Dan

    Thru-Hull Drain

Thanks for the replies. The bellows and lower unit were replaced a couple years ago so it's probably not that. Water from the cooler does drain out so the drain tube is still attached but my guess is not properly. I checked seals and they seem fine. Last summer I ran with the engine cover up and someone watching to see if they could tell where the water was coming from and it didn't seem to be coming from the stern. it's only a few inches of water, and only comes in when I come off plane. The bilge pump can handle it fine but it's not a good thing and would like to fix it.

    Thru-Hull Drain

I have a question: the previous owner of our boat replaced all the thru-hull plastic drain holes with stainless steel ones. unfortunately he (I think) messed up on one. The drain hole for the bow cooler is just above the water line on the port side. I think that he didn't secure the tube from the cooler to the drain correctly because whenever I come off plane water gets into the bilge. This is the only time water gets in. I checked and the plug seems to be sealed against the hull well. The question is how to get to the hose (inside the hull) and the hose clamp. I can't get in touch with the previous owner to find out exactly what he did. If I can't get to the tube, I wouldn't mind sealing the drain. What would be the best way to do this? Thanks for the help.

Hello to one and all. My name is

Same boat Same year Different color Different engine Different outdrive I like mine a lot. For the years it's kept up really well, including vinyl. It rides extremely well and have had no major issue with it...yet. Lots of really knowledgeable and experienced people here, a truly priceless resource.

So today we went up to the lake

We have the 5.0L Merc package and I know what you mean about more power I don't have a problem with porposing, even at wot. My top speed is only about 40mp/h on gps though. Maybe the extra weight of the 5.7 is the problem?

So today we went up to the lake

I'm glad it all worked out! We seem to have the same boat. What engine package do you have? Keep me posted on the autobilge. For now we keep ours in a dry stack but that might change in the future. Dan

Great pics, thanks for sharing. Looked like a lot of fun! Might be a stupid question but...how do you keep all those tubes from smashing into each other? Do you tie them all to the same point or use cleats or...
