Impulse purchases. Some buy candy bars or lottery tickets, I'm buying a boat. I'm new to the boating world, and will appreciate the wisdom and information of this forum. That said, here's the boat story: A few weeks ago, I saw a 1994 Chaparral 1830 SST Sport with a 4.3L l6 MerCruiser in my friend's yard and said: "ooh, who's boat?" Hello all, I have a lead on a 1994 185 SL with a 3.0 mercruiser engine - from the pictures it looks is pretty good shape. Know very little about Chaparrals so I'm looking for advice. Boat and trailer for 5500 deer - which is above NADA, but it looks pretty well kept. Generally speaking what problem areas should I look at? Leaking issues, stress cracking, hull issues, handling problems, mechanical/electrical. Were there major issues with the floors and transom rot - owner says it has been garaged - but I don't know what the carpet is layed over on the deck, Has anyone pulled up the carpet and p
