  1. I recently took my chaparral out and landed at a sand bar so the kids could play, raised the stern drive to protect it. Went to leave- stern drive wouldn’t go back down. I can hear something running when I push the trim button up or down, but the stern drive won’t go up or down. Just the sound of a motor running. What’s the issue here? 2007 Volvo Penta 5.0 SX-A with outdrive.
  2. I recently purchased a 2003 Sunesta 223 with the 5.0 GXI Volvo-Penta motor. It has a Duoprop outdrive with 1.95:1 gear ratio pushing F5 props. I am seeing terrible acceleration times to plane. I usually run a full boat, 4 to 6 adults 2 to 4 kids and am getting planing times of 11 to 12 seconds. Pulling a 200 lbs. wakeboarder increases my plane time to 20, 21 seconds. I am constantly having to run wot just to get the boat to move. When pulling a tube, it takes a while to plane and I have to have the accelerator down when I turn, or I loose so much power, that the tube ends up being like an anchor. When I hit the holeshot, the tach reads 2700 rpm until I get on plane and then it will start climbing. I was running wot on plane at 40mph and hitting rpms of only 4200. I do a lot of watersports and care more about holeshot acceleration than top end speed. Does anyone know why I am not getting a decent holeshot with my setup? I recently had the engine serviced and compression checked. Everything was spot on. I did replace the screen in the fuel regulator with the eclip, but experienced no additional power. Is there something the mechanics and myself might be over-looking? Would a change in props help, or am I just underpowered for my boat?

    Volvo Penta EVC Issue

    We launched our new to us Chap 310 Sig yesterday! That’s the good news The bad news is we can’t seem to clear the Volvo Penta EVC control on her. So, we are locked out of being able to see any relevant information it conveys, including how much fuel she has, RPM, etc, etc.I’m going to take a picture, but one message on the port side says “Important! See Ops manual.” (No, we don’t have the ops manual). It’s a 5.0GXiCE-M (year 2010) 21182210. Anyone have any experience with these?

    not comfortable with estimate

    2001 Sunest 233 5.7 volvo penta received an estimate to replace the alternator oem starter $400 plus labor to install seems high, does anyone have experience with this looking for insight Thanks in advance

    Mooring Through Winter

    Anyone have experience mooring through winter in an area with ocassional below freezing temperatures? Considering keeping our boat in a covered slip in Portland, OR through the winter. Been advised keep the outdrive down for drainage and so its in the water where temp will remain above freezing. Considering an automated heater for the engine compartment and flushing anti-freeze through the flush hose on the Volvo Penta 5.0 GXI in our 2011 206 SSI. Appreciate any thoughts!

  9. Just ordered a 2013 264 Sunesta and we are very excited for it to arrive. However, after spending some time on the forum, I'm second guessing my engine choice. I ordered VP 320, based on our salespersons recommendation. He stated that we would be very happy with the 320 hp engine. I also added trim tabs to assist in plaining. My concern is that we will always run the boat at about 4500' elevation, usually with a boat load of teens wanting to raft, ski, kneeboard, and wakeboard. The salesperson spoke to the Chaparral rep and confirmed that this setup would be just fine and not really worth the $ upgrade to the 380 hp. Here's my experience with our past boat. A 2004 Four Winns Horizon 230 with VP Gxi 5.7 320 hp single prop. Lots of prop issues, never really solved, but ended up with an adequate prop that had good hole shot, but only a top speed of about 35 mph. I know that having the dual props and trim tabs on the new 264 will help all the way around, but the 230 weighs about a 1000 pounds less that the 264. With this being a $ boat, am I making the right choice with the 320 hp vs. 380 hp? Thanks for your thoughts!
