  1. I am preparing to install the factory option Garmin 742xs in my 2016 226. I have ordered the unit, transducer, and woodgrain bezel. The dealer is not showing any additional parts required to the install. It seems like there would be a harness to go from the digital gauges to the unit. Does anyone know if there is an existing Nmea 2000 network from the factory or what is required to tie the engine data to the GPS unit?
  2. I am looking to see if anyone else has the Garmin VHF 300? Looking for feedback from current users, as I can not seem to find any reviews that are worth reading online. What do you like, what don't you like. I have limited helm space for radio mount, looking to stay compact.
  3. I just had a Garmin GPSMAP 547 installed in-dash on my 244 Sunesta. I love the look of the unit, but am confused about functionality and operation. Dealer gave me no information or help on the unit. I've done a bit of research on the web and find that it is a NMEA 2000 unit and that I will need a NMEA 2000 starter kit and and engine gateway along with a special NMEA 2000 transducer to get it to do what I really want it to do which is give me the engine readouts, water temp and depth. It is already a nice chart plotter. Does this sound correct to anyone who knows about NMEA 2000 units? Is the engine gateway difficult to install or should I hire a pro? Thanks in advance for your help and advice!
  4. What would you guys recommend to put into my console? The parts guide refers to a Garmin 530 (no longer available). I don't fish and have zero desire to start but it would be nice to know if my kids were jumping into a tree minefield. I am looking for something that will get me from point A to point B without much thought. It will probably never see the coast and spend most of the time in the Midwest lakes. I realize everyone has a favorite but I'm looking for something to remember where the rope swings, bathrooms, and other funness. Thanks in advance!
  5. I am in the process of ordering my first Chaparral boat. 2014 model 216 with Volvo. I am really excited and want to make sure I get all the options right. I would appreciate any help. Which Garmin GPS should I choose. The gps features I am most interested in are, inland lakes, water depth and some basic engine functions. I don't need sonar or fish finder. I am considering the 531, but don't know if this is the best choice. Any Input would be appreciated. Thanks.
  6. I just purchased a 2013 H2O fish and ski and was wanting to upgrade the fishfinder to a larger screen with GPS. Has anyone else installed one and if so where did you install it at and do you have any pictures of it mounted. I'm thinking it can be mounted over top of the cupholder but I am not sure if there is room to swivel it. I am looking at the Garmin531s. Thanks Bill.
