    2003 Apha One Maintenance

Hey everyone, Looking for some advice on my Alpha one drive. It's a 2003 and i'm not sure what the previous owner did as far as maintenance. I have replace the impeller last season so I know that has been replace recently, but as far as getting deeper in the drive i'm not sure. How often are you supposed to look into changing the gimbal bearing, bellows etc? Are their any warning signs to look out for that they need to be replaced?

    Gimbal Bearing Replacement Cost?

Hello, New boat owner here & I have a question on a repair estimate. We just brought a 1996 180 LE model with the 135hp Mercrusier Engine ($4500) and found out the Gimbal Bearing is shot! Life lesson learned as it looks like this is now our problem after 1 month. Engine is quiet as a kitten, but a terrible rumbling noise coming from the floor just in front of the engine compartment (idle & running). I noticed this during the test drive but did not know enough to ask why & did not have a mechanic check out the boat... yea I know. Anyway I went to a local repair shop here in the Blue Ridge, GA area and he explained everything regarding the Gimbal bearing and how it works. I've met this person before and trust what he says & he knows a lot about boats. He also mentioned/recommended that while he had the transom out he should go ahead & replace a few rubber boots ?? (exhust, gimbal, ??) which will protect things moving forward and thus we should be good to go in that area for some time. I think in all, he mentioned the parts would come to around $200 total. Total Cost for Repair Work: $500 3-4 days to complete. Does this seem like a resonable deal? And is there anything in that area he should also check/replace while he's doing those repairs?? Thanks in Advance, Frank
