Anyone have the Garmin VHF 300?

I am looking to see if anyone else has the Garmin VHF 300? Looking for feedback from current users, as I can not seem to find any reviews that are worth reading online. What do you like, what don't you like. I have limited helm space for radio mount, looking to stay compact.

    VHF radio replacement

Hello y'all. I hope everybody had a great Turkey day! Maybe even took their boat out! The time has come for us to replace the VHF radio. I have a Raymarine VHF 215 right now. I am looking for a suitable replacement. VHF218 maybe? Should I stay with Raymarine, if I switch to something else than Raymarine, should I be concern with any of the wiring and connections? Thank you for your input!

    Sunesta 224 Stereo

We just purchased a Sunesta 224 which we will take delivery of in April. We still have time to make changes to our options and are wondering if we should upgrade the stereo system? There is no information obviously available about the 'premium' standard stereo (i.e. watts). How I can I be sure I have enough power with the standard 'premium' stereo and shouldn't upgrade to the one with amp and bass module. I like my music so I really do want "premium" sound - can't stand the tinny sound of too much treble. I would prefer not to have to make upgrades or changes after taking possession of the boat but don't want to spend money for an upgrade unnecessarily. If you have experience with this please reply. Thanks and happy boating!

    Leak Ruining Radios? 2001 196SSi

Hey guys, just spent $175 on a new head unit. After a rain, I feel under the dry box and glove box areas at the raised area of carpet underneath and its wet. Also, I feel on top of the business end of the head unit, and it's wet as well. I don't see any way water can leak down, as it looks like a solid sheet of fiberglass above the head unit. Is it possible that I have bad weather stripping on the dry box door and it's running down all the way? Radio is in the same location as factory. Thanks!

    Stereo recomendations

Guys, What AM/FM/bluetooth stereo unit would you recommend to replace my inoperable JBL MR-17 (Sirius) unit with 2x Remote control interface units? It doesn't look like JBL makes marine stereo systems anymore?
  7. I just added a Bluetooth adaptor to my Sunesta 243 this past weekend using the RCA inputs on my JBL MR4.2. I forgot that this will need a power source as well. What suggestions does anyone have regarding a power source? I really don't want to splice into any wires presently going into the radio leaving them exposed to the elements. I had thought of running wires up under the inner gunwall back to the battery box and directly connecting them to the battery using a rotary switch to turn it off when stored. I know it would be easier to pull power off the radio somehow, but I'm hesitant. I'm good at remembering to dis-connect the power when docked, but I'm not much of an electrician!

    2001 Sig 240 - antenna location

I pulled the radio from my Sig240 and found that the antenna cable was no longer connected. There was a piece of heat shrink tubing and the remnants of a small gauge wire soldered on the end. Anyone know what the antenna looks like and where it is installed? I checked all the cable harnesses, even ran a borescope down the passage, nada. For some reason I thought it was in the headliner over the entrance to the aft cabin. Thanks, George
  10. I just got the jbl mr 145 radio for my Chaparral to replace the jbl mr 16. While the radio switches out fine I do not see how I hook in the remotes into the radio. In the 16 there is are 2 connector hard wired coming from the radio. One is the 12 p connector to hook from the radio to the speakers. The other is a 6 p connector to plug into the system of my three remotes. I don't see this 6 p connector from the mr 145. Anyone have advice to connect the mr 145 wiring to the three REM 25b remotes I have? I greatly appreciate any advice!

    Radio Wiring

I have a 1995 Sunesta 220 and I am trying to put in a new radio. I was wondering if anyone knew or had a wiring schematic? It looks like the speaker ground are run to the 2 back speakers and then serial run to the front from there. New radio has 8 wires for speakers and there are only 6 in the boats now. Any help would be great. Old radio shot craps and was terrible anyway, want to install something newer. Thanks, Mike

    Stereo Access or Removal? 204ssi

Hey Everyone, Quick question... How do I either remove the factory stereo from the glove box area or gain access to the area behind it in a 2005 204 SSi?. I have a 6 speaker system and only the center speakers are working. So the aft & forward speakers are not playing. I have an amp mounted under the aft seat and it is powering on. Havent troubleshot it too much yet. Mainly wanted to make sure the inputs to the amp coming from the radio were still connected. So thats my question... How do I get back there? Thanks in advance!!
  13. I just bought a 2005 Chaparral Sunesta. It has a JBL MR16 radio currently that sounds awful. I want to replace it with a compatible radio so I can still use the wired remotes in the front and back of the boat. Any suggestions??

I Have A JBL MR-5 With Swim Platform Control, Does Anyone Know Of A Satellite Radio That Will Work With The Controls?
  15. I have a 2007 246 SSI, and the Clarion m455a source unit has died. It's just the head unit, the wired remotes, speakers, etc are fine. Unfortunately, I've decided to sell the boat. The problem that I'm running into is that the m455a unit is discontinued and hard to find. The wired remotes are not compatible with any other new unit that I've found, so it's a bigger investment than what I want to get into to replace the whole system. I want the new owner to be able to get exactly what they want, but I also want to sell it with a working radio (just good karma, I guess...everything else on the boat is in really great shape). I wondered if anyone maybe upgraded their stereo but kept the original unit? If it was still working when you took it out, I would be interested in hearing from you. Thanks, Jay

    H2O upgraded stereo system

hi everyone. iv'e upgraded the stereo system in my h2o 19,instead of the @#$%@#y jensen "system" that came from chaparral. it's a sony marine reciever + stereo remote + 6 speakers + sub + 2 amplifires i think it's a shame that chaparral are installing this very standard stereo (not to mention the 1 way @#$%@#y speakers) comparing to sea ray 190 that comes with a sony stereo + 4 sony speakers as a standard what do you think? you can see my new stereo in this link http://forum.chaparralboats.com/index.php?showtopic=22841

    H20 Owners

Just wanted to let you know my radio volume stopped working, couldnt turn it up or down, looked in the owners manuel no reset so I thought it would be like many of you guys saying the radio is junk and needs to be replaced. So I thought to my self that I might be able to reset it myself, so I just went under the dash and unplugged the large wire connector plug, left it unpugged for for a minute then plugged it together and what do you know, it worked again, So heres a tip if your radio goes A wall
  18. I have had an issue with my 2001 Chaparral 183 SSE for the past couple of years. Most recently, the problem is that I am out on the lake and the boat is running fine and when we go to start it, it won't turn over. My repair guy told me it was the starter and has changed it 4 times in 2 years. We launched it on Saturday and it started fine but when we accelerated it shook violently and would not get up to full speed. I called him and he came over. Said that a couple of the wires were crossed. I know, he should know better. We dropped him off and it sounded better and got up to full power. We took off again, I shut it off and tried to restart it and it would not start. Cranked a couple of times and then nothing. Made a clunking sound. Finally after 3 tries got it to start and hauled it out and brought it back to him. Again, he changed the starter and said it was fine. We picked it up Sunday morning and it started fine but when we turned it off, it did the same thing, cranked twice and then a clunk. Got it to finally start and we stayed on the lake. My daughter mentioned that each time that we were trying to start it when it didn't start, the radio was on. When we powered the radio off, it started every time. Is this just a coincidence? Also, the vibration and shaking is back. Please help as we are going on a two week vacation on Sunday. Thanks, Kerry

    Shakespeare 4400 Antenna Cable

Since i installed our radio last year performance has been ok. I've heard the weather stations and various boat traffic. Never really tried to communicate out other than with the local marina after installation (which granted was 100 feet behind from where i was sitting in the boat at dock). A buddy of mine was out yesterday so we tried to use the radio. He couldn't hear me nor me him. Squelch all the way open and i didn't hear anything. I took off the antenna a Shakespeare 4400 and the coax cable just popped out. It wasn't crimped in anyway - seems like it was just shoved up there. Taking off the antenna from the mount might have loosened the coax i know, but, i think it might have been off from the start. With the coax only - no antenna - i receive the same traffic as before. Has anyone had this happen to them and/or fix the coax/antenna problem? The antenna comes with the coax attached, but, i really don't want to buy a new antenna, have to re-run the coax through the boat again, only to have it not work well. Any tips/hints or suggestions on other antennas? The 4400 is the 3' whip one - not larger fiberglass versions. I'm only in the lake, not out at ocean, so i think this is the right fit. thanks! Jim

    JBL stereo remotes not working

I just purchased a 2006 256 SSI. The radio (JBL M-17) was fried. I replaced with a new JBL M-18. The remotes on the helm and platform are not working at all. The wiring was exactly the same on both radios. Do I need to replace the remotes to match new radio? Just looking for some help. Thanks.
