I have a 2003 chaparral signature, I bought in April, it has run great and haven't had any problems until yesterday. I was moored on the beach and when it was time to leave my boat would start then immediately die It did this about 10 times, then we pushed the throttle down and got it to start. was able to get back to my dock, shut is down and it started back up. let it sit without shore power for about an hour tried starting it and it immediately died. Hooked it up to shore power left it over night, went to start it up and it started right up with no problems. I am afraid to take it out on lake Michigan if I can't trust it. I thinking it could be a fuel issue as I hear my fuel pump run constantly when I turn on my batteries ( is this normal) , or a battery issue. ( am I supposed to switch from shore to AC main when I am out on the water?) Any help would be appreciated.
Jlmxs posted a topic in NewbiesI just acquired a 1996 Chaparral 1930 SSI Limited Edition with sport seating and a 5.8L EFI OMC Volvo Duo Prop motor. Great little boat. However, it has started to shutter / shake upon starting. It doesn't happen all the time, about ever 3rd start. When it does it shakes the steering wheel and drive back and forth for about 5 or so seconds then settles down and everything seems to be great. I have replicated this out of the water as well as in the water. Someone, I spoke with, said it is related to the power steering. I have changed the fluid by sucking it out of the reservoir and adding new fluid. I have done this a couple of times trying to get most of the older fluid out. The fluid coming out is in good shape and doesn't look bad. More history. The boat hasn't been on the water in the past couple of years. It has been stored indoors. I also don't see any fluid leaking out anywhere. Thoughts? Any suggestions or help on solving this annoying issue would be great.
