RedBull Cliff Diving @ Possum Kingdom Lake June 6-7

Recommended Posts

This will be held literally on #$^%'s Gate and should be fun. It's not getting a lot of publicity, but if you watch the video clips from the attached website, consider making the trip. It's the world's biggest cliff diving series (8 total stops) and I believe it's the first and only North American site chosen since the competition began.

Interesting that the website won't let me type in H-E-double hockey sticks....It's the real name of the island shown in the pic.

Red Bull released its e-magazine (link below) yesterday for the entire competition. It explains everything about the event: competitors, location, scoring, etc. Very well photographed. Next to the Blue Angels flying over, this should be quite the event.

(Occasional F-16's and F-22's flyover from Carswell)

Ok, I'm in for this, it's only a 2 hour drive for me. My wife is stuck throwing a shower on June 7th so it will be a boys trip, with me, my son and grandson. I plan to go out Friday and sleep in the cuddy overnight.

So who's up for a chap raft-up during the event? Lets get together and figure out how to communicate when there to find each other. Maybe decide on a radio frequency to hail each other at the lake.

Well, I guess it wasn't clear, but I'm going to be there. There are only two 1990's-era Chaps @ PK, and I'm one of them. I have a cabin + dock about 10 minutes away. I think I remember a pic of your boat on PK, just outside of H-E-L-L's Gate, so I'll bet you're familar w/lake. If you haven't been there in awhile, there's only two public boat ramps available these days w/low water level (down 13.9 feet): South D & D (closest) and a temporary ramp just north of there, both located on the peninsula. If it's anything like 4th of July, trailer parking will be a headache, but I'll let you park your trailer down at our cabin about 1/2 mile down from the boat ramp.

Here's the info about the boat ramps: http://www.brazos.org/generalPdf/AAB85_BoatRampAvailability-8x11-Temporary-2014April09.pdf

Don't forget your daily usage permit: the BRA won't be forgiving if they catch you without one. They're available on the boat ramp or at the BRA top secret headquarters next to the dam.

PM me and I'll give you my phone #. They upgraded the cell phone towers about 2 years ago and coverage is pretty good out there, unless lake gets real busy. I monitored radio traffic for years and never heard a lot of comms, so phone might be easier.

I am familiar but haven't been out for a couple of years due to drought. My sons in-laws have a place, but they no longer have water front property until the levels return closer to normal. They Are also a 30 minutes away by water. Thanks for the ramp info, I had heard there were only 2 ramps, but didn't know their location. I'm sure the ramps will be extremely crowded. It's a big lake for only 2 ramps!

Pm sent

I would have come to this for sure, it's not far from me. However, I will be in Cancun for the week :beer-7687-1:

I want to check out PK this year and hit up Texoma again.

Used the South D & D ramp to launch jet skis this past weekend, and it was fine, plenty of depth. While low (down 14.45'), the rain last week added 6". Bass boats were out in force.

Here's another article about the event:

Hopefully, the website will reproduce the word "h-e-l-l-s". If not, go to http://dallas.culturemap.com and search for "red bull cliff diving".

The Possum Kingdom Lake Chamber of Commerce posted the FAQ from Red Bull Cliff Diving:

http://www.possumkingdomlake.com/news/126-red-bull-cliff-diving-hells-gate.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+PossumKingdomNews+%28Possum+Kingdom+News%29

They say the entrance to HellsGate will be closed off, and we'll be corralled in the cove, with the entrance around back. They don't want anyone to play music, and there will be "supervision".
