Top and Bimini Question

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone:

Just a quick question, can I travel on a 50mph highway with my Bimini and windows zipped in? It seems very secure. My travel time is about 45 minutes. I boat at 30 to 35 mph on the water with no issues, just curious if anyone has experience running on the road. I can't find if Chaparral says this is a no no.

Thanks

Rob

NO..........in a word

If you don't have a cockpit cover leave it open, but use the bow cover without the pole.

Pretty sure you'll see a 'Do not exceed 45 mph' tag on the back underside of your bimini top. As Matt says, don't do it. You don't want to know the price to repair or replace your tops. I see people doing such things, but I too don't think it's a good idea.

It might be ok, but is it worth the gamble ? When you compare the breakdown and setup time vs the replacement cost, it seems a big $$$ gamble to save a little bit of time.

Yeah, it may take a few trips at 50 mph, but I'll put money down it won't last long after that. You will see tears in the straps & joints.

Basically, if you want to replace... go ahead. But if you want it to last... baby it.
