Bilge Cleaning / Bilge Pump

Recommended Posts

I have a 2010 Chaparral Sunesta 284. I want to clean the engine area with bilge cleaner and water. How do I temporarily turn off the auto bilge pump so that the cleaner and water can remain in the bilge area while the boat is in use?

Should be a circuit breaker or fuse somewhere.

Hopefully wingnut or Shepherd will chime in.

Disconnect the battery or tape the float portion of the switch in the down position (or lay something heavy on it). We use Simple Green for a good washing, but only when ON LAND.

Note: found this out recently -- biodegradable products do not biodegrade when rinsed directly into water -- biodegradable means that when rinsed into soil, enzymes in the soil can gradually break down a biodegradable substance and render it safe once it finally returns to the water supply, via the soil.

And, that doesn't mean that oil rinsed out will biodegrade. We always keep one of these in the bilge to absorb anything that shouldn't be in the water: http://amzn.to/1NEyQch
