fiberglass cleaning

3 posts in this topic

I am seeking advice on cleaning my new chaparral. Specifically the hull, attempting to remove scuff marks from bumpers. Thank you.

LOL, welcome to my world. First off, let me recommend installing soft fleece covers on your fenders. This will greatly reduce the chafing. Depending on the depth of the scratches, you will need to compound the hull at a minimum. If they are deeper than compound can eliminate, (which I have had), you will need to wet sand with 2000 and possibly 1500 grit paper. To compound, you need a rotary buffer with either a foam or wool compounding pad. Then follow with a polishing pad and something like 3M Finesse IT polish. This will take out the compounding marks. Then finish with a good coat of wax. My boat is black so the bumpers scratch the heck out it. So I installed fleece covers on the fenders and I wrapped my dock bumpers with fleece. This solved the problem
