Chap Owner - Inspired to build a Social Boating App

Recommended Posts

Hello Fellow Chappy Fans and Owners,

It's been a very long time since last I posted on the Chaparral Forum and for good reason. I have been busy building a startup "RaftUp" and namesake app for recreational boaters could use to keep in touch and potentially add some safety. I am a big Chaparral Boating fan and ex-owner "I sold my boat for my startup", a big portion of what drove me to build this technology was inspired by my long experience with all things boating, boat ownership of a 2008 Chaparral 276 SSX and the Chaparral Community.

I know that there are several wonderful navigation apps out there and that's great - RaftUp isn't another nav app, it's something different and I hope that you may be interested to check it out. We are just getting started and hope to learn and grow from this group.

We have had some great press of late and I wanted to finally share the news with this community.

Cheers!

Interesting, I'll give it a trial on our lake...

Coincidentally, I'm developing "TUBER", which is a ride-sharing application for inflatables... :)

Thanks!

Bummer, it doesn't list Lake Livingston although you can scroll over on the map to it.  Marina gas prices would be a nice feature.  Can users mark their own points of interest?

Yes, We will edit and add the lake. I believe we may have it mapped as "Trinity", sorry about that we don't pay our interns much..

Fuel Prices - Rodger that!

Yes - users and add Points of Interest at the moment all user generated points are public. We will be adding group privilages and private privilages soon.

Thanks!

I only spend about 3 minutes looking at the app and your website, but am I correct in that in order to see lakes, etc. near me (Virginia), I have to subscribe/pay?  I don't have a problem paying for an app, but always like to see if it's going to be useful in my area before I start forking out $.

We utilize google maps and all bodies of water available via two map settings for free.

Points of Interest - the plan is to grow to the entire US as quickly as possible with points of interest.

The real benefit that we have seen from early user input is the socialization of help and being able to see a community of "Rafters" as that can save time for everyone by not playing cat and mouse while on the water. What's an hour worth to you if you are not waiting or driving around looking for friends, family, or that place while on the water?

The app is free to download and a user can see points of interest provided or by other users and someone can also use the socialized SOS feature without paying.

Also note and this is an easter egg. It's free to use for anyone downloading and signing up until June 1.

Thanks for the comment.

Downloaded and checked out the app - nice job! Left you a note on the Contact Us page. I'm happy to promote a community in the Huntsville/Decatur area as well as Lake Guntersville, Wilson, and Pickwick. Thousands upon thousands in that stretch of water so look for my note and email me how I can help you in this area.

I downloaded the app, but it will not let me make an account. I type in my email and a password which follows all the rules.... I click next and nothing happens. It is a really great idea though! Also, is Sebago Lake in Maine on there?

Thanks

BoatingSam,

Did you fill out the password twice? We have found that some phones have to scroll down to fill out the password twice and then fill out their username/handle.

Please email me at corey@raftup.com

I can help resolve the account signup immediately.

Thank You,

Corey
