Hello, my name is John Wayne. Your Microsoft computer is sending error messages...

The "I am from Microsoft" guy is the best. I let him tell me how he see all the errors on my computer, and when I waste enough of his time, I tell him he is a crook as I don't own a computer. CLICK...   Rachel is determined to save me interest on my credit card. I tell her "agent" that I do not pay interest on my credit card and have not done so in over 45 years as I simply pay the bill when it comes. CLICK... Oh, and the IRS is filing suit against me for non-payment of federal income tax unless I call this 800 number and provide my credit card number. Easy to know that one is a scam as the Fed took ALL of my money already. And then there is the guy from AMERICAN pharmacy who says my life would be so much better with Viagra in it. How would he know, and if he is from American pharmacy, why can't I better understand his words? Do not call list? Don't even go there.   W

They call the cell and let it ring 3 times so there is a number in the missed calls. The idea is that you will call back and that will send you to an international number that will charge you.

Not only the crooks that call it is also AT&T and Verizon with offers.

OMG, don't let my wife see this topic. She lives for these guys. She will hear them out, waste their time then block their number. Her favorite by far.

The breast cancer lady calls asking for help to assist women suffering from breast cancer. She ALWAYS replies excitedly "Great, when can you send me a check to help pay the 125,000 deer cancer treatment bills I have". Normally she hears a "Click" from the other end, sometimes they take the bait and tell her they are trying to help women with breast cancer. She then goes off on them for not caring about women like her with colon cancer or her friend with lung cancer. I love to listen to her ask them why she is a second class cancer and does not deserve any help. Sometimes I feel sorry for the poor woman that makes the call, but then again I live with her so the woman on the phone got off easy.

pretty much why we don't use our house phone.  If it's someone we know they typically use our cell phones.  If the house phone rings, 9 times out of 10 it's a nonsense call.  Caller ID enables us not to answer unless it's a number we recognize!

My wife has kept the "Microsoft" guy hanging on the phone for 30 minutes. All the while she is having her morning coffee on the back deck, as she tells John Wayne that her computer is still booting...

My favorite was when I got a call from a boiler room trying to get me to invest in penny stocks. I kept the guy on the line a while. He said he was from JP Sachs or some other combination of two financial firms. I had a blast. My father, who owned a heating business, used to ask telemarketers if they wanted a new heating system. Those conversations were short.

I always ask the charity type calls what their overhead is. By law they have to tell you and the most common response is that 10 or 15 percent of your donation goes to the actual cause!

Had someone stationed away in the military wanting my boat badly and willing to send me an extra $2k so long as I then wire it to the transporter coming to pick up the boat.

Just send them the money after the fake paypal email...

I also have the Mr. Number app, blocks spam, ex's etc. My step father used to flirt with any female telemarketer who happened to call. Always had a big s--t eating gin on his face. Usually the scammers like to target the elderly......stay on your toes, Cy.

For your land line, sign up for "NoMoRoBo". Phone rings once and it's over. Of course "Allison" from Credit Card Services changes her number every 37 seconds, as does the Microsoft guy from India, so they slip by on occasion.

For the Microsoft guy one, I ask him what the MAC and IP addresses (of course they can't answer that one) are of the offending machine, as I have 5 machines all running at the same time, 2 Linux machines, 2 Windows machines and an iPAD. But I am curtious about the problems with the Windows machines because "I am sure they are secure", as I work for a Govt entity that works on Department of Justice networks and his info is being logged automatically. CLICK. The DOJ logging statement works well on "Allison", also.

Just got a new phone and number at my rental property in California. Within thirty minutes of the tech leaving, the phone rang - it was a scam call. Then the political calls started and more scam calls. Unbelievable how fast it began. I feel bad for the tenants, although we did put the number on the do not call list.

Just got the one about my pc sending error messages from the guy in India.  Biggest scam lately for me is the accounts Wells Fargo set up that we had no idea we wanted.  Still waiting for a call back after I got a collection notice for $500 for an account I never opened that I called about.

I actually support your wife with what you stated above. Long ago, I got hammered with several different forms of cancer and different forms of therapies [cures]. Despite a few "scratches" left over, I survived. To be honest, it annoys me to no end the constant focus on breast cancer. Almost every weekend there is some sort of breast cancer awareness, breast cancer wellness....trot...run...walk....etc etc. PINK PINK PINK!!

HEY!! What about the rest of us who fight everyday to survive....am I not worthy of the cancer battle because I don't have 44DD hang'in out my shirt?  Give me a break!

In my opinion, breast cancer is no more important [or less] than any other cancer out there.

Rant completed.

Back in college, I actually bought the penny stock someone was touting.  It went from around 2 cents to over $5.00 when I sold it.  I made a killing.

Finally got the Wells Fargo account cancelled that they set up without my knowledge.  Took at least two hours of my time and they will have to clear my credit report as well given I suddenly got collections notices for an account I never knew I had, never got a bill or notification for but was charged fees for.  They've done this two other times over the past couple years but I would always get a credit card in the mail or statements in the mail which would alert me to fact accounts were opened....not this most recent time.  I hate dishonesty.

Unfortunately this is all to true.

Also the calls saying the IRS is filing a lawsuit against me are a riot. The IRS has said point blank that they do not make phone calls to households for that kind of thing
