The 2017 Atlantic hurricane season is an ongoing event in the annual formation of tropical cyclones in the Northern Hemisphere. The season will officially begin on June 1, 2017, and end on November 30, 2017. ...

On April 19, Subtropical Depression One formed in the central north Atlantic, making it the first tropical or subtropical cyclone to develop in April since Tropical Storm Ana in 2003. Later, the storm developed into Tropical Storm Arlene on April 20, becoming only the second named storm to form within the month of April on record.

Start ...

Winter was mild this year. Ocean water is warmer this year from the get go. The first TS formed early. These are the facts.

Based on the similarities to 2003 which was one interesting season, it might be wise to look well beyond US shore and be tuned to the developing weather more this year. Especially if you planing on crossing to Bahamas, or any other part of open ocean.

... end of public announcement service.
