Water not circulating!

Recommended Posts

What is up here?  Hooked up the muffs, turned on the water full blast, started the engine and noticed that the water temp gauge started moving too soon.  Got out and looked at the muffs, and there was no water coming out of the engine, as there usually is.  All of the water was coming out of four holes in the front of the lower outdrive.  Of course I immediately turned off the engine.  What's up?  Impeller?  I just got the boat back from the mechanic!

Sounds like you have a dual water pick up Bravo drive. There is a cover you can buy for the 4 forward holes, but simply putting some tape over the 4 holes will prevent air from getting into the system, and thus allow the impeller to draw and push water properly when running on muffs. I'm hopeful that you didn't burn out the impeller. Good job on staying alert and responding as you did.

Thank you!  I will tape up the four holes in the morning and let you know if my impeller is still intact.

Impeller is burnt up.  It's a brand new lower outdrive and I didn't notice soon enough that water was escaping from the four intake holes.
