WOT range for 1999 5.7 injected

Your performance sounds right on the money. From your numbers, sounds like your drive ratio is 2.2

Good to know. I didn't manage to take a look at the plate on the drive that will confirm for sure, but everything felt good and I didn't notice anything negative from the dinged prop. I'll probably go ahead and have them trued at some point, but I don't think it's a priority for this season... I'll wait til it's cold outside...

Keep watch of the bilge,a torn input shaft seal will let oil back into the belllows and start running into the boat. also somewhat common.

It had just been changed and the mechanic that came out thought the same thing, (drive oil seeking level)...

How much might have to be added on a Bravo 3 after changing? I added a 1/2 qt. then cruised another 9.7 miles and the reservoir was almost empty again...

Regardless, it's at the shop and hopefully they'll get it squared away while I'm in London this week...

That's alot to add. I have never added more than an ounce or two.

I'll be having the mechanic test all possibilities for where the fluid went to and hopefully they can fix it so I'm ready for another Lake day this weekend. Hard to coordinate it while I'm across the pond, but #$^%, I'm on the forums right now from 35000 feet, so anything is possible with modern technology, a smartphone and wifi is really all you need...

Ingalp01,

A half quart seems to be a lot for an Alpha one gen 2. (just a thought, maybe it was not done correctly) It is important when changing outdrive oil that it is pumped in from the bottom with the vent open in the top. I pump it in until it comes out the vent and fill the reservoir afterwards. I always notice the reservoir drops between 1 and 2 inches after running for a few minutes and top off. At that point it should find its level.

The mechanic is picking it up today (original mechanic and the one that delivered the drive oil on Saturday) Long story, but I left it at Gainesville Marina Saturday evening, cause I had to fly out on Sunday and was hoping to salvage this coming weekend. Talked to Gainesville Marina this morning and they are slammed, so the original mechanic is picking it up from there and taking it back to his shop to track down the leak! (Keep in mind I'm in London trying to coordinate all of this.)

By the way Brick, whereabouts are you in P'tree City? My sister and niece both live down there and I lived in Fayetteville for 22 years...

Did we figure out which engine?  It can't be 300 hp if it is a 5.7 if it isn't mpi which came out for engine model year 2002 (not boat model year 2002). Mpi was only on big blocks prior to 2002 engine year.  2002 was a big transition year.

We are on the eastern edge, not far from McIntosh.

I'm still awaiting a reply from the tech that e-mailed me. They have the engine serial number and I assume will get back to me at some point.http://2AAE1B70-BFC7-4D54-A22B-97F2FF12E59A.jpg

Cool, my niece graduated from McIntosh. Other than the family I've got a lot of co-workers down that way as well, P'tree City & Newnan that spend a lot of time on West Point Lake.

I can see it isn't a 300hp MPI just by the style of the engine decal alone.  Then noticing the WOT range which is a lower wot range tells you that it is the older style/non MPI engine.  If you then take a wider shot of the engine, it will be a bit more obvious yet.  My best guess is you have the year-appropriate style, EFI engine.  It is interesting that the Drive Serial Number is not present.

I would not worry if it was a 260 or 300 HP version. My previous 2002 220SSi had the 260 EFI. Current 2005 220SSi has a 350 MAG/MPI. Same drive/ratio/props. Both boats ran same WOT and speed.

I still haven't heard back from the MerCruiser tech, but my mechanics engine specialist said it's a 260 hp. Like Brick said, I'm not too worried about it because it ran out to 4600-4700 RPMs and 44. 888 mph when I converted my GPS track from knots to mph.
