Slow to trim up issue on Volvo duo-prop

4 posts in this topic

2011 sunesta 264  volvo drive

Im having trouble finding a thread on this.  The trim takes forever to raise.  Just curious where the reservoir is and the proper fluid.  The boats an hour away, just want to take proper fluid if that is the issue.  Point me in the right direction.

Thanks alot!

Volvo had a recall of the trim pump.  the reservoir is located under the water line tucked under the drive.  boat must be pulled to work on.  its a closed system.  hopefully, your issue is simple.

Since my trim gage is erratic, I have gone to a timed system of tracking its position. Mine takes about 10 seconds to go from fully down to full up. Is yours taking more time than that? Do you hear the pump pumping? Does it sound normal? I do think oil can be added if it needs it. If so, it is leaking somewhere, have you seen an oil sheen back there?  There is a cap on the reservoir, not sure what type of fluid is used, I would suspect that you could use ATF fluid if you cannot find the Volvo oil.

Last year my trim was very slow and after a lot of messing around I found the problem to be one of those cheap Chinese anodes on my outdrive had shifted and was rubbing against my strut. Replaced the anode and all was good.
