my gimble bearing failed it destroyed the transom plate assembly. I'm in need of a replacement for a 1993 slc 2000, 4.3 litter v6. alpha one gen 2, I'm hoping someone can help me find one or a line on used one or parts warehouse donor boat etc, my mechanic is quoting 2900.00. we love our boat and want to keep her going for another ten years.

OUCH!!  Is that $ 2,900 for parts and work required, or just parts? If parts only, what parts exactly? At any rate, this would be MerCruiser Alpha 1 Gen II components.

I don't wish to kick you when you're down, but seeing you're planning on keeping the boat, highly recommend the following if boat is not already so equipped:

- install aftermarket extended swim platform along with a SeaDek mat kit

- install new shift and throttle cables from remote control to engine if 10 years  old or older - they get stiff over time; get the best cables you can like Mercury Platinum series.

Hard to convey the difference having an ESP with SeaDek on top makes for safety, comfort and greater usage you get out of the boat. Not cheap, but worth every penny.
