Ski Boat Kayaking

Recommended Posts

Thanks for posting. A good idea for summer activities.  My boat puts out a fairly large wake so it will be more like Niagara Falls rather than the Lower Niagara River rapids.

Isn't there the possibility of CO2 poisoning for the kayaker ?

I thought I read or heard that it was an issue with surfing .

Only with above water exhaust, right?  I know many I/Os exhaust through the prop hub.  Guessing no problem there?  Or can you even surf behind an I/O?  I'm showing my ignorance.

If the person gets too much CO2 & or CO they pass out & fall down.  FACE   UP   life vest / jacket is a must.

If they end up in a face down / mouth & nose in the water ?   They can drown / die in a minute.  They suffocate.    I have a heart stoppage condition. I simply pass out with no pain or warning. I would suffocate if swimming.

New I/O's you can for sure, as some are designed for it.

The new Chaparral surf models have Surf Gates and the new Volvo forward drive:

I did a web search of .....  Volvo Forward Drive exhaust location.

Exhaust location & release is in the same relative location.  Difference is the prop thrusting water tube is not there to keep the exhaust gases under water longer & farther back.  Is exhaust gas fumes more serious ?  I do not know.  Did we trade better prop safety for a increased exhaust problem. Maybe at certain slower speeds.   Would need testing to state a positive or negative change.
