Pushed in trim cylinder, did I ruin it?

Recommended Posts

I moved my boat under a carport today with the outdrive off, and completely forgot to tie up the trim cylinders. One of them got pushed in while I was backing up, so is it a goner or is there a way to pull it back out to its proper position?

just hit the trim in to retract them, or trailer to extend them

What exactly do you mean by hit the trailer to extend them?

That's just official, shop talk lingo lol.  Just push your outdrive trim button to raise and lower the outdrive as if it was on and do it a couple of times.  That should get the pistons going but make sure nothing is in their way when you do it so they don't get snagged on something.

If one got pushed in, the other should have pushed out since they are connected via a manifold block.  You can run the trim pump up until they are all the way out, or down until they are all the way in.  Otherwise, you can do it my hand by pushing the opposite cylinder in, the other will move out.  Stop when they are even.
