244 Sunesta New

Recommended Posts

About to build and order a new 2019 244 Sunesta - Need some advice on options to decide which ones are worth them and which ones are not.  Please provide any advice on type of options you would strongly recommend getting from Chaparral and which ones to buy aftermarket down the road.  Also, going to get a blue boat and thinking of having the bottom done as well, is that hard to maintain and keep clean or is leaving it white better?

Thanks for any help you can provide!  This boat will be on a large lake in MO

Your boat is to be FUN for YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you afford The bottom color ?  Do you really want it ?  DO IT !!!!!!!     They will be far better able to match it.

Dual batteries...….. Your life is on the line in a emergency. Factory wiring is far better than auto store.

Radio for help when boat is dead. V H F with locator transmitter. long antenna with a base loaded coil.  Get a adjustable angle RACHET TYPE. I still have 2 Shakespeare antennas.

Factory or dealer. Install more cleats.   RIGID S S solid top bar with closed hole under the top bar. They are NOT POPUP !!  The hole is used to pass the loop of the fender thru & over the horns .BIG ENOUGH to easily take the fender loop and several wraps of a docking line of 1/2 " of solid braded line. NO CHEAP strands of fluffy filler stuff inside of the braid.

Last item is based on condition of the person letting out & pulling up the anchor. Might go for a power winch on  the anchor in rough weather.  Same logic for a power winch on the trailer.

Windy lake when you come in ?  You will LOVE 4   yes 4 guide on pipes. I have 4 S S pipes with plastic rotating sleeves on them. I can load ALONE in any current & wind.

These are what I consider mandatory for safety in a unexpected bad day.

Did I forget the engine ?   Based on a big lake & wind / waves & at least + 6 ….200 pound people & gear ?   LARGE is best.  You can not afford to replace the supposed economy engine with a load of people going into 4 foot waves for 10 miles.  Big engine YOU CAN ALWAYS throttle back to a smooth quiet fast speed . You can not get more power out of a economy sized engine.  Dealer picked props are almost always junky to keep the price lower...……….So bigger is cheaper & much more flexible.

Enjoy  :)

Edit

My 2002 186 SSI has a 220 hp V8 in it.  It is NOT OVERPOWERED AT ALL  with 6....200 pounders in it. I have a very efficient prop.

Our 244 is pretty loaded with the xtreme package, and every option is great!  One thing that really depends are you salt or fresh water use?  Our boat only has the portapotty as it is a fresh water boat, and it has never been used and was only in the boat for about a half of a season.  Now we just use that space for all the spare lifejackets we need for all the spare bodies that come out!  If it was me, I would totally get the surf package, but that isn't for everyone...

We bought our boat used, and if I was buying new I NEVER would have ticked off the box for a big stereo, but since ours came with it, I have found I love it!

Ok guys, thanks for the advice.  I ordered a 2019 244 Sunesta black full gelcoat with blue sport graphic, about every single option available, including exhaust upgrade and every speaker possible!  With 6 teenage kids, my wife and I are really looking forward to replacing our 1995 Sunesta that has years on her.  Will post picture when I get it in!  i did order the vacuflush system for the head, but my lake doesn't have a clean out station, so will have to look into ordering a self pumping clean out tool for when I pull it out of the water and take to the nearby campground that has a black water cleaning station.  Pomme De Terre lake in MO is where this will be kept!
