Volvo penta dps transom shield anode replacement

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

i was going to replace my anodes this year myself to save some dough but as i look at the specs for the zincs for my outdrive it looks like the only way you can change the transom shield zinc is by removing the outdrive first. This is on a sunesta 264 by the way volvo penta dps-b. Can this be right? Most people can get at their anodes without going through this i think.

here is a link to the info.

If you have an SX shield, no need to remove it and the third party drawing connected to the link is incorrect (as it relates to the transom shield). DPS-B’s use an SX shield.

No, definitely not.  Look underneath the outdrive right up against the transom and you'll see that anode right there on the bottom of the transom shield.  2 bolts, easy peasy.

I use the same anode. Just rise the drive up a few inches to make more room. If its all the way down, you will never remove it.

I`ve done it several times. Just raise the drive, lay on your back underneath and remove the two bolts that show in Hatem`s picture. Easy.
