I'm Outa Here...

Recommended Posts

Hey

Well that's me done - I've sold the 2005 Chaparral 235 Ssi and now boat free. I have enjoyed the Chaparral for the past 4 years and spent a bit of time and money getting it back in shape - nothing a bit of cut and polish and tightening of old bolts wouldn't fix. I found the boat extremely well suited to our river system here in Perth and it was able to handle the 20km ocean trip to Rottnest Island for long weekend get aways. The 5 Litre Volvo Penta engine is still the original having done about 650 hrs and still running strong...mechanically I am told it is in A1 condition.

Only down side to owning a Chaparral boat in Australia is the unbelievable price you have to pay for original Chaparral parts. You get hit by the US/AU exchange rate then ripped off for shipping. In some instances, the shipping is twice the price of the original item. I was fortunate having travelling to USA a few times over past four years so could get items delivered in advance to hotel and then then bring back with me on the flight in my baggage. Otherwise, I had to sometimes source a local part and modify to suit the boat.

Anyway, all is fair in  love and war and just the price you have to pay for owing a boat I guess hey. Just know I wont be buying a USA built one next time just due to part costs - build quality was excellent though.

Anyway, enjoy your approaching summer and hope you have lots of fun boating ahead.

Signing off from Perth - Western Australia - the place Matt Damon and Chris Hemsworth just visited last week!!

Hey good luck to you, mate.  At the risk of getting into a political quagmire bashout, I'll say this anyway but you can thank the new clown in-chief for much of those price increases with his stupidity in creating tariff wars with almost every single country that we used to do great business with, along with that dumbasss tax bill he introduced.  And now what's happening is all these countries such as the great land down under are retaliating and taxing the @#$%@# out of our exports to stick it back to the idiot who just decided to do all this and change the global economy without even appointing a single, qualified person to do an impact study on what would happen and offer advice on it before he decided to make these stupid decisions.  Rant over!

Good luck to you and what will you do now, buy something built locally?

Hatem, I respectfully disagree and doubt that there are any tariff`s on boat parts between the US and Australia that have led to exorbitant shipping fees, but rather simply the logistics between the two locations and the already high costs of parts, even here in the US, where they are made.

Tariff wars has been going on for a long time - just look at the US trade deficit - we were just always the ones on the losing end....but soon, that will be fixed and then the "clown in-chief" will be blamed for something else! :)

Stick around... no reason to leave if you have valuable input to add.

It drives me crazy to see grown adult use childish names to identify their political opponents. Childish.

We do not need a political  arguing site.  Lots of sites eat that up gladly.

And I appreciate the respectful disagreement with what I said.  This is so much better than some of the others who come at me on other boards, so I am certainly thankful for that.

That said, there might not be a direct correlation with the shipping of US made parts to Australia or any other country, but the import fees have certainly increased and not only for US-made product going into foreign countries, but imports coming into the US.

Here's the big fraud about the tarrifs imposed by the donkey-in-chief:  by the time all the tariffs were imposed in 2018 over the course of several months, the deadweight cost (or loss to American consumers was $1.4 billion PER MONTH!)  That's per month, not per year.  A study that was done by the Centre for Economic Policy Research from Columbia University found out that the clown tariffs imposed throughout 2018 cost the U.S. economy $6.9 billion last year, above and beyond the $12.3 billion paid by American consumers and importers to the federal government.  What that basically means is that we, as Americans, are paying both those costs of higher taxes, as well as the those spillover costs which are known as deadweight loss.

So our costs and taxes increase, and as exporters, who do you suppose those increases are going to get passed on to?  People buying American parts in Australia, the UK, Gabon, lol and wherever.

And as far as the argument that these tariffs will reduce the budget deficit; while technically it should, but the problem is that because there was never a sound, impact study done on the broader effects of imposing such tariffs and it was impulsive (just like 99% of everything this clown does and let's not even get into his 50+ barrage of childish tweets this past weekend) is that while the concept is supposed to work that way and while tariff revenue does flow into the U.S. Treasury, the billions generated by the trade war has not slowed any growth of the federal budget.  If the tariffs are draining $1.4 billion out of the economy EACH MONTH beyond the cost of the taxes paid by U.S. importers, it becomes more obvious that it's a fraudulent concept that the tariffs are actually benefitting the country in any way, or its economy or even the federal government.  It's costing more!

I'm sorry to derail this thread, but economics is a strong suit in my family and some friends and we've discussed these tariffs ad nauseam and I could go on for hours talking about all the other minor side effects.  But bottom line if imports into our country are costing more, every single country receiving American-made imports will jack up the rates which will all affect us as consumers in any part of the world.

No offense, honestly, but your contribution to this thread besides that snarky comment is what.....exactly?

Btw, everything I mentioned was 100% related to the OP'S point.  You might disagree and you're more than welcome to, but it's not off-topic.

Very true, especially when such a child is the president of the United States.  Worst than childish behavior.  :haha-7383:

Amazing.  A couple of years ago Clopadopadopadus made an arrogant and slightly degrading comment to me when I was simply asking about the best way to keep growth off of my outdrive, and when I told him to pisss off, his then dog at the time who's been absent from this forum for a while jumped ugly on me and started a major brawl.  Funny Cyclop's dog isn't around to give you a taste of that same medicine when you actually directly insulted him, which is 10x worst than what I did.  Hilarious.  :haha-7383:

Seriously, We can't even go on a boating forum and get away from politics for a few short moments?  Thanks Hatem for you vitriol, it's so refreshing because I never hear any Trump bashing on the main stream media.  Way to darken an otherwise enjoyable forum.  I guess I'll be staying away from here too.

Hatem,

I would imagine that you are reasonably wealthy given that you own a rather expensive boat.  If you are a true liberal progressive democrat socialist, you should donate it to the government so that the government can redistribute it to someone else who should have it, perhaps a minority as reparations for slavery.  You should also donate all of your income over $15 per hour, because of your white privilege.

My guess is that you are an ivory tower elitist, and you feel that you deserve your wealth, but everyone else should have to pay higher taxes.  Put your money where your mouth is and give it all back.

This is what happens when someone brings up politics.

I'll miss PerthWA.  Some good posts.  I think he was the guy that sent a photo of the ocean from his office window, and sometimes joked about our short seasons here in the States.

Thanks, Clops.  It takes a lot of guts and to come on to one of these brawling threads and shut down the personal attacking which has no place here but, especially no reason for it.  That's the difference here because those who offered their 'criticisms' didn't even read the meat of the matter and only saw the parts where I called Trump the clown in chief or the Orange Baboon or whatever it was I said about the donkey.  And your post is also so much more meaningful than the one directly below it coming from a longstanding member who actually brings almost 0 to the table except for snarky, one-liner comments and roll eye emoji's lol and then tells others they shouldn't speak up!  Oh ma gosh!

Let's look at what was said in the OP that I particularly commented about and said the primary reason for him being gashed for Chaparral parts is the tariffs imposed by the gorilla in chief.

That's what I commented on.  Now take a look at @Chap243's post and even @RoyR's.  They disagreed with me, I replied back with information to support my argument and it was left at that.  If they chose not to reply that was their prerogative.

If I don't suckle the president's milk booobs like many of his supporters do and that's my choice.  As a matter of fact, I despise him quite a bit for many reasons but that's also my choice.  Isn't that what this country is all about?  If you disagree with me, tell me why or I'll just say fine, have it your way.  But to make a comment like this, here?

Vitriol?  Do you even know what that word means?  Did it upset you that I called him the clown-in-chief?  Why should you care about that more than the reason why I called him that?  Shouldn't that be more important to you if you support him?  Argue the point which was the tariffs that are causing the problem for our Australian friend instead of getting bent out of shape because you don't like the name or insult I made of the president.  Then you top it off with this really lame threat about staying away.  This was your first post, sweetheart! lol.

Not that I need to tell you anything personal about me since it's nunya, but I'm actually an independent and I probably share a lot more conservative values than liberal ones being that my faith teaches that.  That said, I'm also probably the only, true, blue-collar worker on this forum who works with his hands and am hardly wealthy by any stretch of the imagination.

A bit of constructive advice - the next time you wish to take me on, go to the meat of the issue instead of making things personal.  We'll get a much better debate that way than this BS you came at me with here.

Our thin skins are poisoning this forum...………  Stick to the boating topics

Or we will be just like our 2 party system today.

All mouth & no real work being accomplished together.   It started before Trump. It will continue after he is gone.

Lets get back to helping each other about our boats and  the pleasure they can give us.

Some guy posts that he sold his boat, and Hatem (appropriately named) spews his bull@#$%@#, and you attack me for calling him out?

By the way, 10,612 posts in 7.5 years?  That's about 4 posts per day every day for 7.5 years.  Get a life.

I'll go the way of PerthWA.  GFY!  "I'm outa here."

In case you forgot, spewing bull@#$%@# is part of our great 1st ammendment which you completely and conveniently ignored.  Not to mention that it wasn't the content of what I said that bothered you, but the fact that I called your beloved tyrant a clown.  That's what bothered you and then YOU attacked me.  Typical of you lot.

And for your information, my name is pronounced "Hat" as in the item you wear on your head followed by "tem".  It's cultural but of course that's something that would be pretty difficult for you to accept or understand, seeing the way you handle disagreements.

Well HG, I still see your name as Hate Em. Nothing personal, you just happen to be in the land of those Red Sox and Patriots. Oh, and let's not forget that dirty rat nosed hockey player up there.  :haha-7383:     Really not a political guy here, I just read the news and shake my head alot. I'm glad I am at the age that I am and sometimes wish I was older so I don't have as much time to witness what is coming.

Haha. A better way to spell the correct pronunciation is Haddum.  Why it ended up being spelled Hatem is probably because if you took letter to letter from the original language to English, that's how it would be written, but not pronounced.

Are you talking about Brad Marchand? LOL!  He is a royal punk asss biatcha no two ways about it, but what a player.  He's the type you love to hate when he's not on your team, but believe me, he's gotten his share of grief for the dirty and useless crap from all the fans here that he does on the ice and when he made the allstar team this year, ever since then, he's actually kept his nose clean of all that unnecessary dirty stuff.

17 hours ago, Futzin' said:

So what's your problem now?  What did the jerk Hatem say that got you jumping the anti-Hatem bandwagon?  Last time I remember interacting with you was complimenting your skiing pictures and then asking you if you've ever parasailed since you like all those water sports and your answer I thought was so arrogant, just simply "pass"!  You could've even say anything positive or worthy of reading and a good exchange except a one-liner resembling a toad turd.  What did I ever do to you to get you all bent out of shape at me?  Was it the Twerking Turkey on @tomnjo's Thanksgiving thread that offended you?  Funny, not many here have a sense of humor and the ones that do, it resembles that of sandpaper.

Oh, was it the disagreement we had about the black gelcoat vs white?  I thought we left that as we agreed to disagree?  I bet you won't even reply.  Most around here who like to fling dirt at others are one-time hit and runners so no, I don't expect you to reply with why all of a sudden you're all bent out of shape at me.

This is unbelievable.  Too bad the people PM'ing me about the clownship @#$%@#show on this thread aren't actually posting in it!  You think I'm bad, loool.

Here's the really sad part about all of this: the OP said he was selling his Chaparral and not buying that brand because local parts aren't available and because of the cost and I said you can thank the clown in chief because of his tariffs and only 1 individual out of the entire lot of you actually argued the point itself and didn't care that I called him the clown in chief or the orange baboon or the full-fledged donkey or whatever.  He actually argued the point.  Imagine that!!!! LMFAO!  While the few who got all twisted was because of this bizarre loyalty to the freakazoid in charge that some even threatened never to come back...........and after 1 post L-O-L-O-L!!!  This is such great stuff!  :haha-7383:

I'd love to know what the reaction would've been had I said everything that I did say, but instead of calling him the clown in chief, I said the president or just Trump.  Would that have changed the triggering effect we just witnessed here?  Anyone DARE to answer that question?
