so I just bought a 2001 chaparal 216 ssi started right up, went out on the water started right up let the motor run but when I went to take off and cruise the throttle acted like it wanted to spring back then the boat just fell on its face and wouldn't start with out giving it throttle. I'm starting to think my problem is in my shifter or the cable any help would be great

If its a carb motor it wont start without some throttle, there is a tension adjustment in the control box for that, a spring return on the throttle is mandatory on the carb
